Early start
This morning is an early start because of GBP Bank Rate news. Because of the difference in Daylight Savings Time, this occurs at 7:00 my time instead of 6:00, when I probably wouldn’t trade it.
Trade plan this morning shows a mixed bag. There are some pairs that are clearly on the move, but more of the appear to be range bound. The Euro is especially pronounced, with a downward move of 103 pips overnight. There also appears to be a component of Yen strength, with EURJPY, GBPJPY, and AUDJPY all in strong downward moves. The USDJPY and CADJPY appear to be range-bound, though..
Setting up to watch the pound pairs. Not taking any trades before the news.
Starting the day down <58> for the week, and <144> for the month, with one week to go in the month.
It took the news quite a while to settle down to civil, and once it did, I couldn’t see a discernible trend, so I hung back for a while. Then it looked to me like the upward move was starting to develop again, and I took one trade on GBPUSD. It went up a couple pips, but then pulled back and stopped me out. Down <10.5>.
Things had changed by the time I came back to the charts at 8:00. Virtually everything had now developed clear moves to the downside. I set up pending orders for pullbacks, and got almost immediate hits on AUDUSD, AUDJPY, EURUSD, and EURJPY.
Combined, they were up over 30 — I think perhaps 40 at one point. But I held on as each started to slide. I eventually punched out or they hit stops for +8. A big delta. Along the way, I had trades triggered or CADJPY, which I accidentally closed for +2.9 when I clicked the mouse mistakenly, and it was over the ‘x’ button, and USDJPY, which stopped out for <10>, and a range break on the NZDUSD, which I punched out of for <7.6> when it pulled back inside the range and the candle was about to close.
So after cleaning up, I find myself down <27>, and said the morning’s still young. I went through and set things up again. And it looked like it was going to repeat – I had open trades on AUDUSD, AUDJPY, GBPJPY, and EURJPY. But then things went south very quickly, and in a matter of only a minute or so, all of them stopped out, leaving me down net <71.8>
So that was my day. The week ended down <130>, and the month is currently down <215>. Not looking good.
